Quinta de Santa Margarida, between Sabugal and Almeida, is on its way to becoming a new wildlife reserve. While the initial fauna and flora monitoring actions are taking place, as well as the first preparatory actions in the space, the Symington Family Estates team joined Rewilding Portugal in an intensive action to clean the property, removing large volumes of garbage and residues.

Rewilding Portugal inaugurated, on October 30th, its Rewilding Center in Vale de Madeira, in the municipality of Pinhel. A space dedicated to nature conservation and direct contact with the local community. This new center is critical for the organization to embark on a new approach to conservation that aims to involve those around it.

October 27th will be marked as another moment that has some much of unusual as magical (something that nature get us used to with its natural unpredictability and magnificence): the return to nature of the cinereous vulture called Fado, in a beautiful irony of fate.

Rewiding Portugal and Comunidade Cultura e Arte officially launched the first edition of the Nature Photography Contest “Rewilding Photo Contest”, taking place already this year. Registration is now open.

Brava is one of the griffon vultures that has been monitored for the longest time under the project Scaling Up Rewilding in the Greater Côa Valley. The information that is being collected about Brava and others allows us to collect important information for the knowledge and conservation of the species, such as its eating habits, and the places it chooses as its roost.

The Lupi EcoClubs, promoted under the LIFE WolFlux project, finally had the opportunity to take the young participants to field activities, where, in direct contact with nature, they could learn and consolidate very important lessons about what surround them.

In the week of 12th to 15th of July, took place the first meeting of the Enterprise team from the various European rewilding areas. One of the goals of this team is to develop the economic argument for nature conservation and restoration. The meeting was held in Portugal and served to build bridges and strengthen ties.

Rewilding Portugal launches today its annual report, which presents the progress made during 2020, including conservation actions for the Iberian wolf, the production of a new documentary and the establishment of several partnerships to reinforce the rewilding movement in Portugal.

Daniel Veríssimo, Rewilding Portugal’s Enterprise Officer, was present at the European Safari Company’s Tourism Training in Italy, and brings a magical experience in his luggage that he now shares with us.
