Rewilding Portugal celebrated on the morning of March 4, 2020, Wednesday, a collaboration protocol with Jornal Fórum Covilhã.
The surveying work will bring a greater understanding of the distribution and abundance of roe deer populations in the area of Iberian wolf distribution south of the Douro river in Portugal, including in the Greater Côa Valley (part of the Western Iberia rewilding area). This is the first step in increasing the availability of natural prey for Iberian wolves.
By detecting and recording the presence of wolves in the Western Iberia rewilding area, Duarte Cadete and his dog Alice are playing an important role in supporting the comeback of this iconic yet endangered species.
In May, a photo mission took place in the Western Iberia rewilding area, and renowned photographer Juan Carlos Muñoz came to the area to capture the local landscapes and biodiversity. A young nature photographer, Daniel Santos, had the opportunity to accompany this photo mission with Juan Carlos for two days. Here is Daniel’s description of this experience.
