Nas margens do Rio Erges, afluente do Tejo onde os romanos procuraram ouro há dois mil anos — e onde, durante o Estado Novo, clandestinamente se “ia à Gandaia”. Aprendemos a ler o rio e a encontrar as armadilhas geológicas onde o metal se acumula; seguem-se a recolha de sedimento, a peneira e a lavagem à bateia. No final, observamos o pouco ouro à lupa, fotografamos cada brilho e devolvemos tudo ao rio. Levamos a memória; o Erges guarda o ouro.

O que levar: Roupa e calçado que se possam molhar (sapatos de água ou sandálias fechadas), toalha, chapéu, protetor solar e água.
Indicações: Atividade dentro de água, junto à margem, com o corpo dobrado em alguns momentos; pede mais paciência do que força. Todo o ouro encontrado é devolvido ao rio. Atividade validada junto do ICNF (Parque Natural do Tejo Internacional), da APA e do Geopark Naturtejo. Idade mínima: sem mínimo, com crianças sempre acompanhadas por um adulto

Voucher for a traditional gold-panning experience on the River Erges for up to 6 people!
On the banks of the River Erges, a tributary of the Tagus where the Romans searched for gold two thousand years ago — and where, during the Estado Novo, people would secretly ‘go to Gandaia’. We learn to read the river and spot the geological traps where the metal accumulates; this is followed by collecting sediment, sieving and panning. At the end, we examine the small amount of gold under a magnifying glass, photograph every glint and return everything to the river. We take the memory with us; the Erges keeps the gold.

What to bring: Clothes and footwear that can get wet (water shoes or closed-toe sandals), a towel, a hat, sun cream and water.
Notes: An activity carried out in the water, near the riverbank, involving bending over at times; it requires more patience than physical strength. All gold found is returned to the river. Activity approved by the ICNF (Tejo International Natural Park), the APA and the Naturtejo Geopark. Minimum age: no minimum; children must always be accompanied by an adult
