Networks and Alliances

We are part of several national and global movements

Rewilding Portugal is part of networks and alliances that bring together organisations, experts and communities from different parts of the world around a common goal: giving more space to nature and building a future where people and wildlife can thrive together. We are fully aware that networking and partnerships allow our collective efforts to reach further and have a more concrete impact on the ground.

From promoting ecological restoration and rewilding to defending the Rights of Nature, more comprehensive environmental legislation that is applied to today’s reality, and the protection of biodiversity, these alliances allow us to share knowledge, collaborate at national level and beyond borders, and contribute to a global movement for nature recovery.

GLOBAL REWILDING ALLIANCE

An international network bringing together rewilding organisations from around the world. This alliance works to make rewilding an increasingly integrated approach in science, policy and practice, promoting ecosystem recovery, the return of wildlife and the creation of conditions for nature to once again perform its natural processes.

Being part of this network means connecting the work carried out in the Greater Côa Valley to a movement that crosses borders and continents.

GLOBAL ALLIANCE FOR THE RIGHTS OF NATURE

An international network of organisations and individuals working towards the recognition and implementation of the Rights of Nature at a global level. The initiative advocates for a change in the way we relate to the natural world, recognising that ecosystems have the right to exist, thrive and regenerate their life cycles. For us, this vision reinforces a fundamental idea of rewilding: nature should not only be protected; it should be given space to recover, evolve and function once again.

GLOBAL BIODIVERSITY ALLIANCE

An international initiative dedicated to strengthening the role of biodiversity as the foundation of resilient societies, economies and ecosystems. This alliance seeks to bring different stakeholders together and promote solutions that contribute to halting biodiversity loss, restoring nature and creating the conditions for conservation to become part of major decisions about the future of our planet.

FRIENDS OF THE MONTAGU’S HARRIER

A network created as part of the LIFE SOS Pygargus project, dedicated to the conservation of the Montagu’s harrier (Circus pygargus) in Portugal. Joining this network represents Rewilding Portugal’s commitment to protecting this species and the habitats it depends on, promoting greater collaboration between organisations, farmers, landowners, communities and other stakeholders involved in its conservation.

The Montagu’s harrier is one of the most emblematic birds of prey of Portugal’s agricultural landscapes and faces threats associated with habitat transformation and agricultural practices. Its conservation therefore depends on joint action and land management that can reconcile production, biodiversity and space for nature.
