Position Title: Project Developer
Organization: Rewilding Portugal
Location: Alentejo region near Alandroal and Vila Viçosa, Portugal
Duration: Full time, 2 years
Responsibilities:
Overall Project Management:

- Oversee all aspects of the Rewilding Portugal management agreement with Pangea Trust.
- Be the main contact point between Rewilding Portugal and Pangea Trust.
- Develop and implement project plans, timelines, and budgets to ensure successful execution of rewilding initiatives.
- Coordinate with stakeholders including government agencies, local communities, and conservation organizations, in agreement with Pangea Trust.
- Direct on-the-ground activities related to habitat restoration, species introduction, and sustainable land management.
Elephant welfare & ecological restoration:

- Facilitate the creation of a natural and stimulating environment for elephants, incorporating their needs and behaviors into site design and management practices (in collaboration with Pangea Trust).
- Lead efforts to restore native vegetation, establish sustainable grazing systems, and improve water management practices.
- Engage with scientific research and monitoring programs to support evidence-based decision-making.
Community Engagement and Outreach:

- Foster positive relationships with local communities, landowners, and stakeholders through effective communication and engagement.
- Provide content (photos, video footage) for use on social media channels
- Provide input into blogs and other written content
Reporting and Documentation:

- Prepare quarterly progress reports, including updates on project milestones, challenges, and successes.
- Maintain accurate records of site activities and expenditures.
Fundraising:

- Be proactive in searching for funding opportunities and collaborate with others in Rewilding Portugal and Pangea Trust on the development of applications and other fundraising initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science, ecology, conservation biology, or related field.
- Proven experience in project management and fundraising, preferably in the field of conservation or ecological restoration.
- Knowledge of Mediterranean ecosystems, habitat restoration techniques, and wildlife management principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and build partnerships.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and Portuguese; additional languages are a plus.
- Commitment to conservation goals and principles of rewilding, with a passion for protecting biodiversity and restoring degraded landscapes.
- Commitment to Pangea’s vision for elephants and elephant welfare.
Other details and salary information
- Full time fixed term contract (two years) with possibility of renewal.
- Availability to start work in September/October 2024.
- Gross base salary of 1,500/month, to which is added food allowance.
- The position is home based, with weekly visits to the property in Alandroal and Vila Viçosa, Alentejo.
